Fellow sojourners,
I pray that you are well. On this day, thousands of professors around this country have interrupted routinely scheduled classes to participate in #SCHOLARSTRIKE for Black lives. Last night, the Spirit led me to stand in solidarity with fellow educators who are choosing to utilize their platforms in universities and colleges to raise awareness around the perils of racism in our country. I pray that as educators in your community that you might follow suit.
As this class is entitled, “Leadership and Witness: Engaging the World,” I find it fitting that on this day we participate in a teach-in on Anti-Racism, Activism, and Ministry. To this end, I have invited accomplished writer, activist, and minister Rahiel Tesfamariam to guide us in a 10-minute reflection on activism and ministry in the wilderness. She will be available for 5-7 minutes of questions. After her presentation, I will share a TED talk that I delivered on ministry and activism. We will conclude our day with 10 minutes of Shot Clock writing. In solidarity, with untenured, under-compensated, and union-sanctioned professors who must speak today, I will not speak a single word.
Peace for the journey.
